Ha Long Bay is North Vietnam's biggest attraction, one of the most magnificent natural splendors of the Far East. "Ha Long" means "Where the Dragon Descends into the Sea." From the emerald-green waters of Ha Long Bay some 3,000 limestone and dolomite islands (or "grottos") rise jaggedly from the Gulf of Tonkin like medieval stone cathedral spires, or the scales on a dragon's back. Local folklore has it that an enormous dragon created the bay, grottos and outcroppings as it thrashed its way toward the open sea to prevent the intrusion of enemy fleets. Today, local fishermen still report encountering a giant sea beast called Tarasque, a sort of Nessie of the South China Sea.

French owner, Eric Merlin, accidentally discovered the existence of a magnificent fleet of four single-wheeled paddle steamers - Emeraude, Perle, Saphir and Rubis, operating in Halong & Vietnam from 1906 to 1945 from a black and white postcard he bought in France! With inspiration from these historic steamers, Emeraude has been designed in the traditional of the grand steamers of yesteryear and its refined interior decor will bring you back to the old-world charm of the colonial era while maintaining modern standards of comfort and safety to make your cruises as enjoyable as possible. Measuring 38 meters (125 feet) long and 8 meters (23 feet) wide, our custom-built wooden junk features three decks, all outfitted with elegant Asian inspired decor. The lower deck is devoted to Passenger Cabins, with sleeping space for 20 people. Imperial Fine Arts Museum : This museum was established in 1923 in the reign of Emperor Khai Dinh. At present, this museum is located at 3 Le Truc Street in an area of 6,330m2. The main building, originally called Long An Palace (Emperor’s Security), was considered one of the most beautiful palace in the Vietnamese imperial architecture. The palace is 1,200m2 wide and built in 1845 under the reign of Emperor Thieu Tri. This is a magnificent wooden monument with over 129 precious wooden posts. Hundreds of classical paintings and holy animals such as: dragons, unicorns, tortoises, phoenixes and over one hundred poems written with Chinese characters are inscribed on the wooden parts of this palace.
